Ioannis Emiris is President and General Director of “Athena” Research Center since April 2021, and a Professor of Informatics & Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens since 2002. He has been a Researcher at INRIA Sophia-Antipolis (1995-2002). He obtained his BScEng from Princeton University (1989), and his MSc and PhD from U.C. Berkeley (1991 and 1994), all in Computer Science. He was a member of the Scientific board of Hellenic Foundation of Research & Innovation, representing Informatics and Mathematics (2018-2021). He has founded and leads the Lab of Geometric and Algebraic Algorithms, which has enjoyed funding through several European, bilateral, national, as well as industrial projects. He has been supervising 14 PhD theses and has coordinated the MSc program in “Data Science & Information Technologies”, joint between NKUA, “Athena”, and BRFAA (2018-2021). He is author of more than 140 journal articles and peer-reviewed conference publications (including FOCS, J.ACM, SICOMP, DCG, ICCV, NeurIPS), of which two earned the Distinguished Paper Award at ACM International Symposium on Symbolic & Algebraic Computation; his H-index is 40. He is the chief scientist of a high-tech startup company.
